While single colour t-shirts or ringers are excellent for layering with something more formal like a blazer or sport coat, band t-shirts are perfect casual wear.

Band t-shirts are extremely popular amongst not only teens and young adults but also amongst adults who still bear a large interest in music – rock and roll, heavy metal, rap, electronica, and so on. While plain t-shirts are excellent and affordable substitutes for the typical screen printed t-shirt, they do not stand well on their own (without a jacket) or convey much personality.

Music Lovers Wear Band T-Shirts, Growing Popularity

The growing acceptance of band t-shirts amongst adults may be in part due to a loosening of social convention when dealing with matters of sartorial taste – complimented by an increasingly tech-savvy population familiar with the Rock Band and Guitar Hero phenomenon.

Why Wear a Band Shirt? Personality, Expression, Conversation

Band shirts are typically inexpensive. They can be had in many cases for less than a dress shirt (although licensed band merchandise can be fairly expensive depending on the distributor and context). Hot Topic, West 49, Bluenotes, X Store, HMV, CD Plus, and other retailers carry a variety of band paraphenalia including t-shirts, hats, scarves, and even wristbands.

  • Band shirts also are somewhat of a personal statement – every band and genre of music has connotations and conventions associated with it. Perhaps an experimental rock band shirt like Muse would connote a more intellectual, catered taste than a more grungy, political approach as provided by wearing a Rage Against the Machine shirt. Thus, band shirts can be worn expressively (or, in some circles, ironically).
  • Band shirts purchased at a show (be it a local death metal show or an arena rock show held in a much larger venue) add an element of authenticity. The shirt not only helps to remind one of the event in question, it also serves as a great conversation piece.
  • People are fond of asking about tour shirts – perhaps they may have seen the artist or even been at the same show! – and it can never hurt to have something to talk about with a complete stranger at a house party, after class, or simply on the street.

Where to Purchase Cheap / Inexpensive Band Shirts, Screen Printed Ts

The best place to purchase cheap or inexpensive band shirts or screen printed t-shirts depends largely on the shopping experience a person prefers.

In person, a great place to look would be retailers in mall outlets, such as Hot Topic. West 49, Bluenotes, Labels, Urban Planet, Stitches, Randy River, and other trend fashion stores tend to carry a lot of band t-shirts and hoodies.

Other excellent candidates are music retailers, such as HMV and CD Plus.

Online shopping also provides an excellent opportunity to search for band t-shirts. Bustedtees.com, 80stees.com, 6dollarshirts.com, and slingshottshirts.com are excellent places to start searching for cheap shirts online – hopefully scoring a bargain in the process!
